The cells are straight to curved rods, 0.2-0.7 um in diameter and 1.5-16 um in length. Cells occur singly, in pairs, or in chains and tend to elongate and form aggregates. It grows with a range of pH from 6.3 to 9.3 with an optimum at 7.5 and a temperature range from 52 to 76 degrees Celsius with an optimum at 68 degrees Celsius. The salinity range for growth is from 0 to 6% (w/v), with an optimum at 1%. Cellobiose, fructose, galactose, glucose, maltose, mannose, raffinose, sucrose, trehalose, xylose, methanol, inositol, manitol, sorbitol, lactate, pyruvate serve as carbon and energy. Thiosulfate, elemental sulfur, and MnO2 can serve as electron acceptors. (Adapted from: PMIDs 21304740 and 15965715)."xsd:string |
