http://purl.uniprot.org/proteomes/UP000000304http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#comment"The fruit fly Drosophila simulans is a member of the melanogaster group of the subgenus Sophophora and a close relative of D. melanogaster. D. simulans is an important model organism for research into speciation and natural selection due to its close relationship with the two island endemic species D. mauritiana and D. sechellia. The total genome size of D. simulans is estimated to be 163 Mb and the total number of protein-coding sequences is 15, 983 (80% of which have homologues in D. melanogaster). It was one of 12 fruit fly genomes sequenced for a large comparative study by the Drosophila 12 Genomes Consortium. This project found that although there were many similarities between the 12 genomes there were also some differences (changes in protein-coding genes, non-coding RNA genes, and cis-regulatory regions) which may relate to ecological and behavioural differences between the species."xsd:string
