http://purl.uniprot.org/proteomes/UP000001039http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#comment"Strain NZ131 serotype M49 was isolated from a case of acute post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis in New Zealand. It is unusually competent for electrotransformation and has been used extensively as a model organism for both basic genetic and pathogenesis investigations. It is also able to cause skin infections, and a Nudix gene cluster unique to serotypes M49 and M82 has been found in its genome. It also encodes 3 prophages and insertion sequences which add to its genetic diversity (adapted from PubMed 18820018)."xsd:string
http://purl.uniprot.org/proteomes/UP000001039http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#comment"The group A streptococci (GAS, Streptococcus pyogenes) are Gram-positive, nonmotile, nonsporeforming coccus that occur in chains or in pairs of cells. Individual cells are round-to-ovoid cocci, 0.6-1.0 micrometer in diameter. They are catalase-negative aerotolerant anaerobe (facultative anaerobe) which require enriched medium containing blood in order to grow. Their capsule is composed of hyaluronic acid. GAS are important human pathogens which can cause a variety of diseases, ranging from mild infections to very severe invasive diseases. The M protein is a highly polymorphic cell-surface molecule that is antiphagocytic and forms the basis of a scheme commonly used to classify GAS strains."xsd:string
