http://purl.uniprot.org/proteomes/UP000001303http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#comment"Zinderia insecticola, a Betaproteobacteria, is a co-endosymbiont with Sulcia muelleri in the spittlebug Clastoptera arizonana. Plant sap feeding insects such as C.arizonana depend on their obligate endosymbionts to furnish them with essential amino acids and/or vitamin cofactors. The symbionts are vertically transmitted via eggs, and are found in a specialized host organ called a bacteriome. Genome sequence strongly suggests that Zinderia uses an alternative genetic code, in which UGA codes for tryptophan instead of stop. The GC content of Zinderia is 13.5%, the lowest yet observed in any cellular genome. It does not code for genes involved in making a cell membrane, peptidoglycan, nucleotides, or vitamin cofactors, however Zinderia is able to synthesize tryptophan, methionine, and histidine, although shikimate, probably provided by Sulcia is needed as a precursor in the production of tryptophan. Thus in this endosymbiotic pair it is Sulcia muelleri that synthesizes leucine, isoleucine, valine, threonine, lysine, arginine and phenylalanine, while Zinderia synthesizes tryptophan, histidine and methionine (adapted from PMID 20829280)."xsd:string
