http://purl.uniprot.org/proteomes/UP000001890http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#comment"Xanthomonas albilineans is a xylem-limited sugarcane pathogen and causes leaf scald disease. Symptoms can vary from a simple white line on the leaves to whole crop loss. It produces the phytotoxin albicidin, which targets chloroplast DNA gyrase inhibiting chloroplast DNA replication and blocking chloroplast differentiation. Although albicidin is a major pathogenicity factor in X. albilineans, it is not the only one. Strains of the bacterium which do not produce the toxin are nevertheless capable of colonizing the sugar cane stems just as well as those which produce albicidin. Humans are the principal vectors of the pathogen, through the utilization of contaminated harvesting tools and planting of infected plant material. It also has, however, characteristics of air-borne transmission via still-unknown phenomena. properties. Strain GPE PC73 was isolated from a diseased stalk of sugarcane cv. H63-1418 in Guadeloupe. Its genome consists of 1 chromosome and 3 plasmids (adapted from PMID 20017926)."xsd:string

They are typically characterized as environmental organisms and are found in soil and water, as well as plant tissues. Many Xanthomonadaceae, especially species from the genera Xanthomonas and Xylella, cause plant diseases. Only one, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, is known to be an opportunistic human pathogen."xsd:string
