http://purl.uniprot.org/proteomes/UP000002627http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#comment"L. johnsonii FI9785 is poultry-derived isolate that has been shown to reduce the extent to which Clostridium perfringens colonizes and persists in specific-pathogen-free chicks. The competitive exclusion law formulated by Gause in 1934 states that two species that compete for the exact same resources cannot stably coexist. Recent regulation preventing the regular use of antibiotic growth promoters previously frequently included in feeds has led to an increase in the occurrence of endemic diseases, hence the exploitation of the competitive exclusion law has gained renewed interest in the agricultural sector. C.perfringens causes necrotic enteritis in poultry, has thus recently emerged as a poultry pathogen. The genome of L.johnsonii is interesting in this regard (adapted from PMID 19767436)."xsd:string

Historically, probiotic roles have been ascribed primarily to Lactobacillus acidophilus. The genus Lactobacillus presently comprises more than 50 recognized species of non pathogenic bacteria which in addition to their probiotic effects are useful to human as indispensable agents for the fermentation of foods and feed."xsd:string
