http://purl.uniprot.org/proteomes/UP000006833http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#comment"Dinoroseobacter shibae (strain DFL 12), the type strain of a species from the Roseobacter clade, is a symbiont of the marine dinoflagellate Prorocentrum lima. P. lima produces okadaic acid, which can cause diarrhetic shellfish poisoning during red tides. The bacteria have unusual pigmentation; they are pink to light red in liquid culture in the dark and beige when grown in the light. On complex solid media they are wine-red. Individual cells grow as cocci 0.3 to 0.7 um in width and 0.3 to 2.0 um in length, surrounded or not by an extracellular polymer. They require minimally 1% seawater for growth. D.shibae is an aerobic anoxygenic phototroph (AAP), that is, it is incapable of anaerobic photosynthesis, and performs efficient photoinduced electron transfer only under aerobic conditions. It contains bacteriochlorophyll a and spheroidenone as its only carotenoid. It provides vitamins B1 and B12 to its dinoflagellate host; it has both an aerobic and anaerobic pathway for B12 synthesis. While the Roseobacter clade has been considered to comprise obligate aerobic bacteria, D. shibae is able to grow anaerobically using the alternative electron acceptors nitrate and dimethylsulfoxide (adapted from PMID 19741735)."xsd:string
