http://purl.uniprot.org/proteomes/UP000007014http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#comment"Algae are unicellular plants, typically found in water or damp areas. In addition to chlorophyll, red algae contain a unique light absorbing pigment, called phycoerythrin, that can emit short-warelength light when exposed light of a longer wavelength; this "fluouresence" has led to the use of this pigment as a laboratory tool. Red algae are also culitvated for food in Eastern Asia. Cyanidioschyzon merolae is a very primitive unicellular red alga that lives in acidic hot water. The genome is just 16 Mb in size, roughly one seventh the size of that of the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana (itself chosen for sequencing because of its atypically small genome). The chloroplast DNA, by contrast, contains many genes that have subsequently been lost in more advanced plants. "xsd:string
