http://purl.uniprot.org/proteomes/UP000007944http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#comment"Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae is a Gram-positive, non-spore-forming rod-shaped bacterium that has been isolated from many species of wild and domesticated mammal, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians. It was previously classified in class Mollicutes, however it has recently been moved into its own class Erysipelotrichi. It is an opportunistic pathogen, best known as the causative agent of porcine erysipelas, which presents as acute septicemia or chronic endocarditis and polyarthitis, and causes significant economic losses. It is also known to be pathogenic to humans. It is facultatively intracellular, and can grow aerobically or anaerobically. Strain Fujisawa is serotype 1a, and a highly virulent strain isolated from pigs. Its genome is among the smallest known for a Firmicute, and has undergone significant genome reduction. The genome lacks the genes for fatty acid and numerous amino acids, cofactor and vitamin biosynthesis. It probably has an atypical cell wall, as it is also missing genes required for biosynthesis of wall teichoic acids, lipoteichoic acids and part of the operon responsible for D-alanine incorporation into these acids (adapted from PMID 21478354)."xsd:string
