The cells are motile due to the presence of long peritrichous flagella, and bodies are formed by self-aggregation of flagella. C.woesei is able to grow at 22, 28, 37 and to a lesser extent, at 4 degrees Celsius. No growth is obtained at 43 or 50 degrees Celsius. Growth occurs at pH values between 6 and 8, with an optimum at 7-7.5. NaCl is not tolerated at concentrations of 2% (w/v) or above. C.woesei is able to utilize the following substrates: glycerol, L-arabinose, D-ribose, D-xylose, acetic acid, ketovaleric acid, propionic acid, pyruvic acid, methylpyruvate, hydroxybutyric acid, ketoglutaric acid and ketovaleric acid. It is also able to reduce nitrate to nitrite. (Adapted from PMID: 12710628)."xsd:string |
