http://purl.uniprot.org/proteomes/UP000008303http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#comment"The genus Francisella is composed of non-motile, aerobic rod-shaped Gram-negative bacteria, many of which are animal pathogens. The taxonomy of the genus is uncertain. F. tularensis causes tularemia, with subspecies novicida (strain U112) being less virulent than subspecies haloarctica or tularensis. Recently F. novicida-like clinical bacteria have been isolated from humans in the USA, Australia and Thailand. Strain 3523 was cultured from a patient who had cut a toe in brackish water in the Northern Territory of Australia. The patient was afebrile, had no other clinical symptoms, and recovered after antibiotic treatment. Studies using Swiss-Webster mice showed that isolate 3523 was less virulent in comparison to F. tularensis subsp. tularensis. It has been sequenced to try and establish its position in the genus. Strains 3523 and Fx1 appeared to be in transition from being environmental to pathogenic since they have lost the arsRB operon (arsenite resistance), but contain loci for lactose and alpha-D-glucuronic acid utilization, in addition to genes for toxin production implying that these strains represent new links in the chain of evolution from the F. novicida-like ancestor to the extant strains of F. tularensis (adapted from PMID 21666011)."xsd:string
