http://purl.uniprot.org/proteomes/UP000009154 | http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#comment | "The increasing production of synthetic and natural poly(cis-1,4-isoprene) rubber leads to huge challenges in waste management. Only a few bacteria are known to degrade rubber, and little is known about the mechanism of microbial rubber degradation. Gordonia polyisoprenivorans strain VH2 is one of the most effective rubber-degrading bacteria. Gordonia polyisoprenivorans (strain DSM 44266 / VH2) is a cis-1,4-polyisoprene (isoprene rubber) degrading, Gram-positive bacterium isolated from soil of a rubber tree plantation and from fouled water inside a decayed automobile tire. It is able to degrade natural (NR) and synthetic poly(cis-1,4-isoprene) (IR) rubber and is deemed to be the most potent rubber-degrading. Two homologues of a latex-clearing protein, which is supposed to be a key enzyme in rubber degradation are present in G.polyisoprenivorans. The deletion of these two genes revealed clear evidence that latex-clearing protein is essential for the microbial utilization of rubber. (Adapted from PMID: 10555361 and 22327575)."xsd:string |
